4th International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP IV) Summit

The 4th International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP IV) Summit 25-28th March: A Pivotal Gathering to Shape the Next Decade of Arctic Research
Over 1,200 scientists, Indigenous Knowledge holders, and community leaders from around the world gathered at the University of Colorado Boulder for the ICARP IV Summit 20-28th March, marking a key moment in shaping Arctic research for the next decade.
As the final event of the Fourth International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP IV), the Summit focused on urgent Arctic challenges driven by climate change—melting ice, shifting ecosystems, and impacts reaching far beyond the Arctic. It emphasized the need for inclusive, interdisciplinary research that respects Indigenous leadership and diverse knowledge systems. Seven priority areas were highlighted, from climate and ecosystem change to sustainable development, education, diplomacy, and research infrastructure. Participants called for greater international cooperation, equitable funding, and bold, coordinated action.
The outcomes will inform a global Arctic research roadmap planned finalized in early 2026, and culminating in the Fifth International Polar Year (2032–33). The message is clear: the time for visionary, collaborative Arctic research is now.
