The International Permafrost Association administers three awards, each geared towards excellence in permafrost research and involvement in the permafrost community. They are presented during international or regional conferences. Awards are administered by the Nominations and Awards Committee.
In 2021, the IPA inaugurated a photography contest to acknowledge amateur photographers and provide them with the opportunity to inform, inspire and entertain the international permafrost community. The winners are announced in the Frozen Ground Newsletter.
