PermaCOST Training School

The PermaCOST Training School on “Tools for Tracking Periglacial Change: From Local to Regional Approaches” is taking place in Trafoi, Autonomous Province of Bozen/Bolzano, Italy from August 31-September 7, 2026

The call is open to PhD students, as well as to postdoctoral fellows and similar early career researchers.

  • Your CV;
  • a one-page motivation letter on how permafrost relates to your research.

Review of Applications will start on March 16, 2026 although the call will remain open for longer, until all spots are filled.

Notification of Acceptance: from March 30, 2026 onward.

EXPENSES AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Accommodation with full board (87 € per day) is reserved for all participants at Stelvio Residence.
(i) Students/fellows will pay for the hotel. After the Training School, up to 60 € per day will be reimbursed to help cover expenses, upon submission of supporting documents via e-COST.

(ii) Travel costs will be reimbursed up to a maximum of 500 €.

Please note: Reimbursement eligibility is restricted to students from COST Full Member and Near Neighbour Countries. Detailed information on financial support will be shared in the acceptance letter.

Main Training Topics

  • RGIK rock glacier inventorying: geomorphological mapping and InSAR-based kinematic characterization;
  • Ground truthing;
  • Rock Glacier Velocity;
  • UAV/GNSS-based surveying;
  • Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT).
