Frozen Ground 46 (2022) is now available!
Frozen Ground 46 includes over 40 pages of updates on international permafrost activities. IPA President, Chris Burn, begins with a statement on the war in Ukraine and its impacts within the IPA and on collaborative Arctic research. The bulletin also includes annual updates on conferences, including last year’s successful North Yukon Permafrost Conference and the upcoming EUCOP6 and ICOP2024, as well as updates from Action Groups, Standing Committees, Projects, and Associated Organizations. We are proud to introduce a new section on industry, with projects from the Arctic to Antarctic, as well as two NEW Action Groups! The newsletter also commemorates the passing of Mike Smith (b. 1944), Tingjun Zhang (b. 1956), and Alan Heginbottom (b. 1943).
The winners of the 2nd IPA Photo Contest (Return to Fieldwork) are also announced therein. Thank you to all the entrants for sharing your wonderful memories, it is a joy to see so many of you conducting fieldwork again around the world! All the contest entries can be viewed on the Awards page of our website.
Thank you to all those who contributed to the newsletter and to our members for their continued support.
We encourage any permafrost research/industry group interested in contributing to next year’s newsletter to contact the IPA Secretariat (contact@ipa-permafrost.org). Let us share and highlight your important work to the international permafrost community!
If you are curious about IPA activities in previous years, all Frozen Ground volumes are available on the Publications page.
