The IPA is pleased to introduce the call for funded Action Groups in 2012. Action Groups are an element in the IPA structure and are meant to fund targeted groups working towards the production of well-defined products. Action Groups will be funded on a competitive basis at up to 2500 € per year (maximum of 5000 € over the life of an Action Group). The Tenth International Conference on Permafrost that took place in Salekhard, Russia is over. Over 500 participants from more than 25 countries attended the meeting in the Yamal-Nenets region, shared their knowledge about recent outcomes in permafrost research and engineering, discussed future collborations and projects, and experienced the extraordinary hospitality of the local people.        

It is a great honor to announce that our colleague Kenji Yoshikawa was awarded with the 2012 Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching, Research and Public Service Awards due to its great efforts in education and outreach for permafrost issues. The award is the the highest honor that the university bestows upon the outstanding faculty. One of Kenji's most popular initiatices is its creation of the 'permafrost-hero' tunnelman.
